New Building Plans:

Tioga County Homeless Initiative (TCHI) started the Capital Campaign Committee in 2019, at this time the committee began planning and raising funds for a new facility for the homeless shelter. The committee raised $300,000.00 in the first six months of the year. We had to shut down the campaign meetings during covid. In April, 2021 we started the campaign meetings again. The first order of business was to send the building plans back to the Architect for updated cost. The Architect came back with an estimated soft cost and construction of the building material. Our second order of business was to recommend individuals who would be beneficial to a building committee.

The Building Committee was formed and started meeting in May. The Building Committee has looked at the plans and they have made suggested changes. The Building Committee had groundbreaking on November 4, 2021. This will give us time over the winter months’ time to do items in the soft cost and prepare for construction to begin in the spring.

Both committees continue to meet monthly, to move the project forward. We currently have over $700,000 in our campaign funds for the building which has an estimated cost over 1 million dollars. We are getting commitments from contractors to volunteer their labor and services to add to the total amount.
